What is circumcision revision?
Circumcision revision is a second operation that corrects an earlier circumcision. It treats tightness, an uneven scar, leftover skin or a painful frenulum. In short, it fixes how the penis feels during erection and how the scar looks.
A revision never repeats the first operation step by step. Instead, the surgeon plans around the tissue that the first procedure left behind.
These results rarely point to negligence. For example, skin on the upper and lower side of the penis behaves differently, so the same technique can heal unevenly from one man to the next.
Which problem brings you here?
Most men arrive with one main complaint. So choose the line closest to yours and jump straight to the answer.
Problems a revision can correct
Each complaint points to a different structure. Therefore the plan starts by naming the cause, not by choosing a standard operation.
Pain or tightness during erection
Likely cause: Too little shaft skin left
Usual correction: Skin release or scar revision
Crooked or asymmetric scar
Likely cause: Uneven skin removal or healing
Usual correction: Scar excision and realignment
Skin bunches or covers the glans at rest
Likely cause: Too much skin left
Usual correction: Removal of the extra skin
Pain, pulling or tearing under the glans
Likely cause: Short or scarred frenulum
Usual correction: Frenuloplasty
Repeated tearing or bleeding on the scar
Likely cause: Weak or tight scar line
Usual correction: Scar revision
Shaft hidden behind the scar
Likely cause: Scar tethering or a prominent fat pad
Usual correction: Scar release, sometimes fat reduction
Two problems at once
Many men need two corrections in the same operation. For example, a tight scar often comes with a short frenulum. In that case, Assoc. Prof. Taş combines both, so you avoid a third operation.
Frenulum pain and frenuloplasty
The frenulum is the sensitive band of skin under the glans. Many circumcision techniques divide it, which is not a mistake in itself. However, it can heal short, tight or painfully scarred.
Frenuloplasty targets that problem alone. Rather than a general skin revision, it releases the tight scar and rebuilds the area. At the same time, it protects the local blood supply.
When frenuloplasty is enough
If pain sits only under the glans and the shaft skin feels normal, frenuloplasty alone usually solves it. On the other hand, tightness along the whole shaft needs a wider skin release.
When is the right time for a revision?
Timing matters more than most men expect. A fresh circumcision scar keeps softening for months, so an early revision can lock in a scar that would have improved.
Wait: until the first wound heals fully and the swelling settles.
Treat first: active infection, poorly controlled diabetes or a wound that still opens.
Pause: blood-thinning medicines, under your own doctor's supervision.
Cut down: smoking for several weeks, because it slows healing.
Good candidates have a healed first circumcision, a clear complaint and general health that suits planned surgery. Assoc. Prof. Taş confirms all three during the examination.
Your revision in Istanbul, step by step
Most men stay in Istanbul for about four to six days. A wider skin release may need a day longer.
01
Examination in person
First, Assoc. Prof. Taş examines the scar, the skin tension and the frenulum. A phone call alone never replaces this step, because the plan depends on real anatomy.
02
Your written plan
Next, he explains which correction you need and why. Also, you agree on the anaesthesia, and he confirms your price in writing.
03
Revision surgery
He works within your existing scar line whenever possible. Small revisions usually take place under local anaesthesia, while wide skin release often needs general anaesthesia.
04
Recovery and flight home
Most men return to the hotel the same day. After a wound check, you fly home with a dressing plan, written instructions and a direct contact.
Local, sedation or general anaesthesia
Three options cover almost every revision. The size of the correction decides the choice, together with your comfort.
Local anaesthesia
How it works: A nerve block numbs the penis; you stay awake
Usually suits: Frenuloplasty and small scar revisions
Sedation
How it works: A light sleep on top of the block
Usually suits: Anxious patients or medium corrections
General anaesthesia
How it works: You sleep fully during the operation
Usually suits: Wide skin release or combined corrections
Local anaesthesia also lets most men fly home sooner. By contrast, a general anaesthetic adds a quiet day.
Recovery after circumcision revision
Recovery depends on the correction. A frenuloplasty heals faster than a wide skin release, simply because less tissue is involved.
Days 1 to 3
Swelling, bruising and tenderness; simple pain relief
Days 4 to 6
Wound check, then the flight home
Weeks 1 to 2
Desk work and walking; no gym or cycling
Weeks 4 to 6
Sex usually allowed again, after healing is confirmed
Up to 12 months
The scar softens and fades
Fever, spreading redness or heavy bleeding need a call to the team. Meanwhile, small amounts of wound fluid in the first days are normal.
What are the risks of circumcision revision?
Every operation carries risk, and a revision is no exception. So Assoc. Prof. Taş explains each one before you sign consent.
Bleeding: bruising or a small collection of blood can follow in the first days.
Infection: uncommon with careful sterile technique, and usually treated with medicine.
Wound opening: edges can separate, especially after an early erection.
Scar changes: a revision scar can widen, thicken or feel firm along the line.
Sensation: numbness or extra sensitivity can last several months after frenular work.
Rarely, a further small correction becomes necessary. Therefore report any concern early, because simple treatment then solves most problems.
What a revision can and cannot fix
Honest expectations protect you more than optimistic ones. So here are the limits, stated plainly.
Release skin so erections feel comfortable
Grow back skin removed years ago
Move, tidy or flatten the scar line
Erase the scar completely
Relieve pulling and tearing under the glans
Rebuild a frenulum that was fully removed
Remove extra or bunched skin
Promise perfect symmetry
The goal is function first and appearance second. Also, judge the final result at about twelve months, because the scar keeps softening until then.
How much does circumcision revision cost in Turkey?
Revision prices vary more than first-time circumcision prices. For instance, a frenuloplasty and a wide skin release involve very different work. So Assoc. Prof. Taş gives you a personal written quote after the examination.

Insurance and medical need
Insurers first ask whether the revision is medically needed. Documented pain, tearing or repeated infection supports a claim, while a purely cosmetic complaint rarely does. In addition, most policies do not pay for planned surgery abroad, so the team prepares an itemised invoice and an operation note on request.
Planning your trip from the US, Canada or the UK
A revision suits a short trip, because most cases are day surgery. Most men fly from New York, Toronto or London and stay four to six days.
Bring any notes from your first circumcision, if you have them.
List your medicines, especially blood thinners and supplements.
Plan loose clothing for the flight home.
The team arranges your appointment, hotel and airport transfers. Read more in the international patients guide, or see first-time care on the adult circumcision page.
Questions to ask before a revision abroad
A good surgeon welcomes these questions, so ask them before you book. In fact, clear answers tell you more than any brochure.
What exactly causes my problem? A named cause, such as a short frenulum, comes before any plan.
Which correction do I need, and why not a smaller one? The answer should match your complaint.
Will you work within my existing scar? This keeps extra scarring to a minimum.
Which anaesthesia suits my case? Ask how the choice changes your recovery and flight date.
Who follows me up after I fly home? Make sure you have written records and a direct contact.

Frequently asked questions
How long after my first circumcision can I have a revision?
Wait until the first wound heals fully and the swelling settles. Your own healing speed then sets the exact date.
Will a revision leave a second scar?
Some extra scarring always follows a second operation. However, Assoc. Prof. Taş works within your existing scar line whenever possible.
Does a revision hurt more than the first circumcision?
Not necessarily, because a revision often involves less tissue. Discomfort still depends on the correction you need.
Is frenuloplasty the same as a full revision?
No. Frenuloplasty corrects only the frenulum, while a full revision may also realign the scar or release skin.
Can a revision be done under local anaesthesia?
Yes, most frenuloplasty and small scar revisions use local anaesthesia. Wide skin release often needs general anaesthesia.
How long do I need to stay in Istanbul?
Plan for about four to six days. Most men go home the same day and fly after a wound check.
Can a revision restore my foreskin?
No. Skin removed years ago does not grow back. A revision can, however, release tightness and improve comfort.
When can I have sex again after a revision?
Most men wait four to six weeks. Your surgeon confirms healing before you start.
Will insurance cover circumcision revision?
It depends on your insurer and on medical need. Cosmetic complaints rarely qualify, while documented pain often does.
What are the main risks of circumcision revision?
Bleeding, infection, swelling and wound opening come first. Scar changes and altered sensation can also occur.
