Medically reviewed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuncay Taş, urologist · Updated October 2026

What is the P-Shot?

The P-Shot is a popular name for penile platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. A centrifuge spins a small sample of your own blood, and the platelet-rich part goes back into the penis. The aim is to support blood flow and tissue health through growth factors.

In Istanbul, one session with Assoc. Prof. Taş costs $600 to $1,200. However, PRP for erectile dysfunction is still under study, and the average improvement in trials is modest. So he offers it as an option to try, never as a cure.

This page explains the evidence, including his own study, and helps you decide whether a trip is worth it.

Which question brought you here?

Most men ask one of five things about the P-Shot. So pick the closest one and jump straight to the answer.

  1. Does the P-Shot actually work?

  2. Is it right for my situation?

  3. What happens during a session?

  4. What are the risks and side effects?

  5. How much does it cost in Turkey?

evidence

Does the P-Shot work? What the research shows

Online adverts often promise firmer erections, more size and better sensation. In contrast, published studies show smaller and less certain effects.

Assoc. Prof. Taş's own PRP study

In 2021, Assoc. Prof. Taş and colleagues published a prospective study in the journal Sexual Medicine. They treated 31 men with erectile dysfunction and metabolic syndrome, with three PRP injections given 15 days apart.

Erectile function score (IIEF-EF, average)

Before PRP: 18

After PRP (1, 3 and 6 months): 20

Sexual satisfaction score (median)

Before PRP: 6

After PRP (1, 3 and 6 months): 8

ED severity group (median)

Before PRP: Mild to moderate

After PRP (1, 3 and 6 months): Still mild to moderate

Side effects

Before PRP: None

After PRP (1, 3 and 6 months): One small fibrous nodule in one man

The scores improved in a statistically clear way. Still, most men stayed in the same severity group, and the study had no placebo arm. That is why the authors concluded that larger, placebo-controlled studies must come first before PRP joins standard ED treatment.

What urology guidelines say

Major urology guidelines in the United States and Europe call PRP for erectile dysfunction experimental. They recommend it mainly within research or with full, honest consent. So Assoc. Prof. Taş explains these limits before any session.

P-Shot claims and the honest answer

Many clinics sell the P-Shot with big promises. So the table separates the claims from the evidence.

Firmer erections

Small average gains in mild to moderate ED

A bigger penis

No reliable proof of lasting size gain

Better sensation

Reported by some men, but poorly measured

Straightens a Peyronie's curve

Early, small studies only

Cures erectile dysfunction

No study shows a cure

Results last for years

Studies follow men for months, not years

If size is your main goal, read the penis enlargement safety guide instead. It compares the methods that change size.

candidates

Who might benefit from the P-Shot?

PRP suits a narrow group of men. Therefore, Assoc. Prof. Taş checks the cause of your erection problem before he suggests it.

  • Mild to moderate ED: men whose erections are weaker but still possible.

  • Men who want to try a drug-free option: often alongside tablets, not instead of them.

  • Men with realistic hopes: who accept a modest and uncertain effect.

When another treatment fits better

Severe ED rarely responds to PRP, and a penile implant gives far more reliable results. Similarly, a confirmed venous leak needs its own plan. Men with blood disorders, a low platelet count, an active infection or cancer under treatment should not have PRP.

P-Shot compared with other ED treatments

The P-Shot is one of several options for erection problems. So the table shows where it sits among them.

procedure

What happens during a P-Shot session

A session takes 30 to 45 minutes in the clinic. Moreover, you stay awake and go back to your hotel the same day.

01

Consultation and tests

First, Assoc. Prof. Taş asks about your erections, medicines and health. Then a blood test checks sugar, hormones and platelet count. If needed, a penile Doppler scan shows the blood flow.

02

Numbing and blood draw

Next, a strong numbing cream goes on the penis. Meanwhile, the nurse takes a small blood sample from your arm, much like a routine test.

03

Preparing the PRP

A centrifuge then separates the platelet-rich plasma in a sterile kit. Only your own plasma goes back in, with no stem cells, fillers or other drugs added.

04

The injections

Finally, he injects the PRP into the erectile tissue with a very fine needle. Most men feel pressure rather than pain, and the injections take only a few minutes.

How many sessions?

His published study used three sessions given 15 days apart. So a full course usually means a longer stay or two to three visits. Assoc. Prof. Taş plans the schedule with you before you book flights.

Recovery and aftercare

Recovery is quick, because the procedure needs no cuts or stitches. Most men return to daily life within a day or two.

  • First day: mild soreness or bruising at the injection sites.

  • First week: avoid heavy exercise and hot baths.

  • Weeks 1 to 2: avoid sex for about one to two weeks, as advised for your case.

  • Months 1 to 3: any effect appears gradually, and the team follows up with you by video call.

risks

Risks and side effects of the P-Shot

PRP uses your own blood, so allergic reactions are very unlikely. Even so, every injection carries some risk, and you should know them first.

  • Bruising and swelling: common for a few days.

  • Pain at the injection site: usually mild and short-lived.

  • Infection: rare with a sterile technique.

  • Fibrous nodule: one man in Assoc. Prof. Taş's study developed a 4 mm nodule, so follow-up matters.

  • No effect: some men notice no change at all.

cost

How much does the P-Shot cost in Turkey?

Questions to ask any P-Shot clinic

A careful clinic welcomes these questions. In fact, the answers show whether it treats a medical problem or sells a product.

  1. Who gives the injection? Ask whether a urologist assesses and treats you.

  2. What goes into the syringe? Ask whether anything besides your own plasma goes in.

  3. Will you test the cause of my ED first? PRP cannot fix every cause.

  4. What result can I expect? Be wary of promises of size gain or a cure.

  5. What if it does not work? A good clinic offers proven next steps.

Travelling from the US, Canada or the UK

Many men travel because insurers at home rarely cover the P-Shot. As a result, the full course can cost several thousand dollars or pounds.

Before you fly

  • Bring a list of all your medicines, especially blood thinners and aspirin.

  • Bring any earlier blood results or Doppler reports.

  • Plan two to three days for the first session, or longer for a full course.

Back home

You leave with a written summary in English, and the team stays in touch by video call. For more travel advice, read the international patients guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a P-Shot cost in Turkey?

With Assoc. Prof. Taş, one session costs $600 to $1,200 in Istanbul. A three-session course costs $1,800 to $3,600.

What is the success rate of the P-Shot?

There is no reliable single success rate. In Assoc. Prof. Taş's study, the average erection score rose from 18 to 20, a modest gain.

How long does the P-Shot last?

Nobody knows yet. Studies follow men for about six to twelve months, so long-term results remain unclear.

How many P-Shot sessions do I need?

Many protocols use three sessions. Assoc. Prof. Taş's study gave three injections 15 days apart.

Does the P-Shot make the penis bigger?

There is no reliable proof of a lasting size gain. If size is your goal, other methods fit better.

Is the P-Shot safe?

It uses your own blood, so serious reactions are rare. Bruising and soreness are common, and a small nodule can form.

Does the P-Shot hurt?

A strong numbing cream makes the injections tolerable. Most men feel pressure rather than sharp pain.

Can the P-Shot cure erectile dysfunction?

No study shows a cure. At best, it may improve mild to moderate ED for a while.

When can I have sex after the P-Shot?

Most men wait about one to two weeks, following the advice for their case.

Is the P-Shot the same as stem cell therapy?

No. The P-Shot uses only platelet-rich plasma from your own blood, with nothing else added.
